NO MORE MOUSEOVERS  02.29.2012

i always feel a little sorry for people whose birthdays fall on leap day. this rings especially true when they’re subjected to eye-rolling lines like “happy 10th birthday!” when they turn 40.

yesterday’s World Superbike season opener was the start of another two-wheeled racing season and therefore another season of fantasy sports. some of my friends do fantasy basketball or fantasy baseball; my brother and i do fantasy racing.

it works the same way that other fantasy sports do: you have a certain number of points to spend and each rider has a set price. in fact, the only real difference is that fantasy racing can span multiple series; in our case, MotoGP, World Superbike and British Superbike.

i’ve been participating in fantasy racing for a number of years now with varying success. sometimes i haul in a massive number of points; sometimes i walk away all but empty-handed as my riders take each other out. whatever happens, though, it definitely adds yet another layer of excitement to an already insane sport.

let me know if you want to join us!

DARK OF THE BOOOOOO  02.26.2012

do you know what’s sad? of all the films that were nominated for this year’s Oscars, i’ve only seen one: Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

want to know what’s sadder? it was also the only movie i regretted watching last year.

thankfully, it didn’t win.

i dropped my coat off at the tailor’s to get the broken zipper replaced last Saturday and picked it up about an hour ago. they did a pretty good job and even replaced the no-name zipper with a YKK.

nice!

HIGH LEVEL CONCEPTS  02.23.2012

Chicago is caught in the middle of another snowstorm right now with expected accumulations of two to six inches. luckily for me, i’ll be stuck inside working for most of this weekend anyway.

A 52-PAGER, OF COURSE  02.22.2012

my passport expires at the end of June (on our wedding day, strangely enough) so i sent it off today to get it renewed. now i know it’s been ten years since i’ve gotten my passport renewed but i don’t remember it costing $135!

Beka’s mom gave us a few TV dinners recently so i decided to have one earlier which comprised of noodles, sauce, chicken and vegetables. unfortunately, the sauce tasted exactly how embalming fluid smells which made me feel queasy.

i ended up eating it all because i didn’t want to be wasteful but i couldn’t help but be reminded of all the funerals and wakes i had been to. never again.

i heard that ESPN ran a racist headline recently regarding Jeremy Lin after the New York Knicks lost to the New Orleans Hornets.

i just want ESPN to know that i will continue ignoring their website and television network. this is not because i don’t care about mainstream American sports but because they hire imbeciles.

but just to be clear, i also don’t care about mainstream American sports.
