feeling productive because i assembled a wardrobe and end table for Beka today. i also feel immense pride knowing that i didn’t injure myself or anyone else and nothing caught on fire today. it’s a unique feeling that i probably won’t be revisiting anytime soon.
i saw a pregnant woman smoking today. what an idiot.
what’s better than Mexican food and old friends?
i saw that this blog recently received a visitor from Luxembourg, a country that has vaguely interested me ever since i first heard about it while doing a project on Belgium in grade school. i admittedly don’t know much about Luxembourg besides the fact that its capital city is also named Luxembourg (imaginative!) and that it borders Belgium. to tell you the truth, i’ve always pictured it as a minuscule spat of land in Europe wedged between fat neighbors populated by powdered wig-wearing people dancing in an ornate ballroom. i could be wrong, though.
anyway, moien! please leave a comment if you’re from Luxembourg!
i discovered a spider huddling underneath a damp face towel when i picked it up off my desk today. its legs were positioned in odd angles and it didn’t move when i took the towel away so i safely assumed that it had died already. however, when i tried to grab it with a tissue, it suddenly ‘woke up’ and scampered onto my hand which i instinctively flicked, flinging said spider into some unknown corner of the room.
i spent a good two minutes looking for it afterward.
so i hear the Blackhawks are finally going to the Stanley Cup finals. fantastic!
unfortunately, i stopped watching hockey after the NHL lockout in 1994, picked up it up a few years later and then stopped again during the lockout of 2004. i haven’t resumed watching hockey yet (with the exception of the 2010 Olympics), partially because i’m still rolling my eyes at all the bureaucracy but mostly because we don’t own a TV.
but i may change my mind come Saturday.
went to see Akira Kurosawa’s Throne of Blood with Beka this past weekend. now i’m not a ‘film buff’ by any stretch and i know even less about Shakespeare so when Beka told me that Throne of Blood was basically the plot of Macbeth set in feudal Japan, all i heard was the clashing swords of fearless samurai as they fought off wave after merciless wave of cyborg ninjas.
it turns out that, while there were multiple samurai involved, ninjas–cyborg or otherwise–were painfully absent. there were no real action scenes to speak of either, just the odd confused/paranoid samurai flailing weapons at his hallucinations. to be honest, most of the film was lost on me.
but i think it might be because i’m an uncultured swine.
renewed my driver’s license today online. boy am i glad i don’t have to stand in line for hours at the Department of Motor Vehicles.
went off to scour some thrift stores today but came home a couple of hours later with only chicken katsu instead. is there something wrong with this picture? probably, but i don’t really care.
