THE IDEAL GOVERNMENT  01.31.2005

just finished downloading Appleseed and watching the first half. i decided to give it a shot because i heard that it was awesome and involved equally awesome fighting robot things.

so i loaded the subtitle file, hit play and BAM: pure, unadulterated insanity sucked me in. putting it on pause to answer an IM felt like coming up for air at the demand of my burning lungs (or in this case, neurons). it was intense.

more things in life should be like this.

BUTTER AND HERB  01.30.2005

if a tree falls in the forest and there’s no one to hear it, who cares?

i went to the National Vietnam Veterans Art Museum today with Bobo to check it out. we were the only ones there and one of the curators (some hippie) stealthily followed us around to make sure we weren’t smashing or setting anything on fire. they had some amazing photos there as well as some pretty crappy paintings and bizarre sculptures.

one of the main attractions at the NVVAM is the “Above and Beyond” which is a memorial that consists of 58,000 or so dog tags (one for every known U.S. soldier that died in Vietnam) all strung up to create one massive piece. today’s photograph was taken there.

CALL ME PETTY  01.26.2005

i found myself in the checkout line of a grocery store late the other night. as somebody was paying, the cashier ran out of change so instead of breaking open a fresh roll of nickels or quarters (which i’m sure they had somewhere) he reaches back for the UNICEF jar and empties its contents into the register!

standard procedure?

for those of you who don’t think i have an eclectic enough taste in music, tonight’s playlist:

U-Point – pick up the Piaf
Anything Box – blue little rose
Guerilla Black feat. Beenie Man – Compton
Metallica and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra – carol of the bells
Apocalyptica – in the hall of the mountain king
Gwen Stefani – the real thing (bonus version)
Loveholic – sad story
Radiohead – you and whose army?
Mitsuo – snapshot
Frente! – bizarre love triangle (acoustic)
The Other Guys – orange colored sky
Nancy Sinatra – you only live twice
Johannes Brahms – rhapsody in Bm
Staind feat. Fred Durst – outside (live acoustic)
Tupac – a crooked nigga too
Sammi Cheng feat. LMF – love is
孫燕姿 (Sun Yang Zi) – 一樣的夏天 (same summer)
Switchfoot – don’t be there

i’ll admit it, i usually don’t like to have so many different genres of music in the same pot but i felt like mixing things up tonight (no pun intended) so there you go.

well, it’s back to the grind again.

the sidewalks were horrible today: too much slush, not enough exposed concrete, too many idiots out. ah yes, the ranks of idiocy were thick upon the streets this morning. i could barely trudge five feet without some moron stopping in my path for no good reason or some meathead trying to muscle in on my half of the sidewalk. there were many times this morning where i wished i had serrated blades for fingers and tasers for thumbs.

on the plus side, my raging bronchitis was soothed by a dose of sweet, sweet second-hand smoke.
