HAPPY HOLIGAYS  11.29.01

heh…our school’s “holiday bush” is up once again. what the heck is a “holiday bush” you ask? it’s the product of my sad little school (okay, it’s not small…it’s actually one of the densest high schools in Illinois) and a few students who wanted to make a fuss.

before everything had to be politically correct, DGS had a Christmas tree. a certain individual who will remain unnamed (well, it’s not like you would know her anyways…i don’t even really know her) decided to challenge the school. she said that the use of the term ‘Christmas tree’ to describe the decorated evergreen at the school entrance was somehow offensive to her and her Hindu beliefs. she rallied support and *POW*…we now have a ‘holiday bush’.

oh yeah…i just noticed that the american flag flying on our school’s flagpole has a hole in it.

(i’m off my rocker today)

monkeys and Civics!
Civics are so inexpensive
could a monkey afford a Civic?
monkeys are smart
could a monkey drive a Civic?
mustangs are slow
could a monkey in a Civic smoke a mustang?

yes

COLD BLOOOOODE  11.27.01

an interesting thing happened to me this morning during the beginning of third period statistics class. i was the first person in the room and i sat down and looked over my notes for the test that was scheduled for today. then two girls (my classmates that i don’t really know) walk in.

    girl1: did you study?

ivan: huh? (not sure if she’s talking to me…but then i realize i’m the only person on my side of the room)

girl1: did you study for today’s test?

    ivan: no, not until now…

girl 2: but you’re going to get a 100% anyways right?

    ivan: uh…

girl 2: aren’t you one of those people who get good grades without studying or trying?

    ivan: no…what?

    girl1: yeah…aren’t you getting a 100% in this class?

ivan: what??? i think i’m getting an 80-something

    girl1 and girl 2: oh…*silence*

what gives? why must they assume that just because i’m Chinese that i’m some sort of genius? and it’s not just with students either, i’ve encountered a lot of teachers who i suspect grade me harder than my classmates JUST because i’m Chinese. last year in my ‘modular technology’ course we took an IQ test and the teacher allowed students to work in pairs. me being the stereotypically (sigh) quiet and antisocial Chinese kid, chose to work by myself. i ended up tying a pair of white kids for highest score (don’t get me wrong…i’m not especially smart, i was just in a class full of how shall we say…ah yes, morons). my teacher than proclaimed me as the ‘winner’ because i took it alone whilst the 2 white kids worked together. being as competitive as they were, the pair whined that they should’ve won…”wait! that’s not fair! he’s Chinese!!!”. stupid kids. i’m not saying that it’s an especially bad thing to be seen as automatically intelligent, but it puts a lot of pressure on us to meet those expectations while we already have so many standards to uphold at home. (i’m assuming most, if not all of you who read this are Asian so you’d understand). sadly, i wish i did fulfill the stereotype.

well, shortly after my previous blog i noticed that there was an ABC 7 crew at school. they were interviewing kids about the pledge of allegiance or something like that…while i didn’t particularly care much about the topic, i tried to get some cameo shots in. heh heh heh. i watched the news at 6pm and saw the 2-minute story about DGS and the pledge of allegiance (i guess it’s some big issue that i don’t know about…just goes to show how much school pride i have) and i saw a bunch of people i knew make appearances on TV but alas…no ivan. dang.

WEDGE TIP KILLA  11.26.01

at school right now doing homework whilst blogging. this is dumb and Dr. Milton Friedman (DMF) is hard to follow at times. for real now, does ANYONE care how and why FDR’s Columbia-drawn ‘brain trust’ skewed the 1932 presidential election? NO! didn’t think so.

in brighter news, i got into The University’s business-administration college this weekend. too bad i’m probably not going to go there. ah well. oh yeah, i bowled a 68 today in gym class.
